Getting Around the Tamarindo Area

If you are standing on the side of the road and a car flashes their lights and/or beeps their horn, they are offering you a ride! For a low cost of only ₡500 – ₡1,000, depending on destination, you will often find yourself in the company of several other locals heading to work or back home. Invariably friendly, this efficient and cost-effective form of transport is a fun way to travel but do note that these are independent drivers with no special licenses, training or oversight.

TAXIS

Taxis are plentiful, and for the most part they will take you anywhere that you want to go. They can be pricey, and it is recommended that you confirm a cost before you get started, however the service is generally very good.
In Tamarindo taxis are always available in front of the Hotel Diria, and in front of both Plaza Conchal nd Plaza Tamarindo in the center of town.

BUSES

Local buses are the most economical way to travel between destination on the Guanacaste coast, as well as to San Jose. The downside is that they are relatively slow when accounting for the numerous stops and run on schedule that may not be convenient for your travels.

Shuttles are the most popular, and usually least expensive, way to get back and forth from the airport and most major hotels and attractions.
